Simo Häyhä (White Death)- SNIPER with the most kills!

Mr. Chris Kyle (see previous posts: "Chris Kyle: Deadliest US Sniper career highlights of a   real American Hero"; and "Chris Kyle- Deadliest Sniper in US history shot dead.") does not hold the record for most kills. That belongs to Simo Häyhä, a Finnish sniper aka “The White Death”, who reportedly killed 542 Russian troops during the Soviet invasion of Finland in the Second World War.

Simo Häyhä was born in 1905 in the farming town of Rautajärvi a very short distance from the Russian border. He grew up working on the farm and exposed to the Finnish wilderness. In 1925, Häyhä served a mandatory one-year service in Finland’s army where he made a mark for himself as by the time he was honorably discharged, he had been promoted to the rank of corporal.

Later on he joined the Finnish Civil Guard, comparable to the United States National Guard. He received a great deal of training during this stint which included target shooting. His first rifle was a Russian-built Mosin-Nagant bolt action M91,

The Mosin–Nagant (Russian: Винтовка Мосина, ISO 9: Vintovka Mosina) is a bolt-action, internal magazine-fed, military rifle invented under the government commission by Russian and Belgian inventors, and used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and various other nations.
and later introduced was the better-performing M28/30 and the 9mm Suomi submachine gun. Due to his training and natural skill, Häyhä was eventually able to hit a target 16 times per minute at about 500 feet away, making him an excellent sniper.
Besides his sniper kills, Häyhä was also credited with over 200 kills with a Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun.

In 1939, the Soviet Union attempted to invade Finland. As a member of the Civil Guard, Häyhä was called into service, serving under the 6th Company of JR 34 on the Kollaa River. Under Major General Uiluo Tuompo, the Finns faced both the 9th and 14th Soviet Armies against as many as 12 divisions— about 160,000 soldiers. At one point during the war in the same area, only 32 Finns fought against over 4,000 Soviets!

Despite being outnumbered, the Finns were still victorious at the end of the day. The invading Soviets weren't as organized as one would expect due mainly to communication problem (they spoke many different languages) and they weren't used to the particularly harsh Finnish winters of 1939-40 with temperatures ranging from -40 to -20 degrees Celsius. The Finns were also tactically smarter most notably their “Motti”-tactics: Since Soviets would invade by the roads, the Finns would hide out in the surrounding wilderness, let the invaders cross the border and attack them from behind!
Häyhä after being awarded the honorary rifle model 28.
Hayha’s involvement in the Winter War was very extraordinary. With his Mosin-Nagant bolt action M91 rfile,  he would dress in white winter camouflage and carry with him only a day’s worth of supplies and ammunition. While hiding out in the snow, he would then take out any Russian who entered his killing zone. Hayha preferred to use iron sights on his gun instead of scopes, as scopes had a tendency to glare in the sunlight and reveal his position. Over the course of 100 days during the winter he racked up over 500 kills, earning him the nickname “The White Death”.

Tired of getting their heads blown off all the time by Simo, the Soviets eventually dispatched a group of snipers and a series of artillery strikes to try to get rid of “Belaya Smert” (“White Death”) all of which failed miserably.   However, on March 6th, 1940, he was finally shot in the jaw with an exploding bullet by a counter sniper in a pitched battle against a large group of Russian soldiers. He survived even though, as they said, “half his head was missing”. He fell into an 11-day coma, awakening on the day that the war ended. Hayha was given numerous awards, and was also promoted from corporal to second lieutenant, a jump in the ranks that had never been seen in Finland’s history. Despite being slightly disfigured, he recovered from his injury, and went on to live until the age of 97.

Despite gaining around 22,000 square miles of Finish soil, the Soviets lost the Winter War, with 1,000,000 of their original 1,500,000 troops killed by the defending Finns. A Russian general later remarked that the land they had conquered was “just enough to bury their dead”.

Chris Kyle: Deadliest US Sniper career highlights of a real American Hero.

Below are some highlights on the career of  Chris Kyle claimed as the most lethal sniper in US history who was shot dead on a Texas gun range February 2, 2013. This is a tribute to a real American Hero:

His most famous shot came outside the Shia district of Sadr City in Baghdad in 2008. From over a mile away he spotted an insurgent pointing a rocket launcher at an approaching Army convoy. He fired at a distance of 2,100 yards. "God blew that bullet and hit him," he said.

Below is a Remington 700 XCR Tactical 338 Lapua. Chris Kyle uses a similar gun (not the gun below), built to his specifications that he used in Iraq to get a confirmed kill at 2,100 yards (1.2 miles).

The Remington 700 XCR Tactical Long Range is aptly named, with sub-MOA
accuracy at 300 feet. Shown here with a Vortex Viper Scope and Harris bipod.

Chris Kyle, 37, a Navy SEAL sniper  has been named America's deadliest marksman after racking up 160 kills during the Iraq War.

To the Iraqi insurgents who hid from his deadly scope, he was known as 'Al-Shaitan Ramad', or the “The Devil of Ramadi.”  They reportedly offered a $20,000 (£12,800) reward to anyone who could kill or capture him.

Fellow Navy Seals referred to him simply as "The Legend".

He blew away the previous US record of 109 kills, set by an Army rifleman during the Vietnam War.

His first kill from long range was a woman approaching a group of US Marines with a grenade in her hand. When ordered, he opened fire, killing the woman before she could attack his comrades.

As Marines and insurgents grappled in ferocious street fighting during the Second Battle of Fallujah, Mr Kyle reportedly killed 40 people - many while lying on an overturned crib in an abandoned apartment.

Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle watches over US Marines from his perch atop an upturned
baby crib in a bombed-out building in Fallujah, Iraq. Branded a “legend” by
his comrades and a “devil” by his enemies, Kyle racked up a record 160 kills.

In his New York Times best-selling book, "American Sniper:The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History," he claims to have taken out 255 people - nearly 100 more than could be
confirmed by the Pentagon.

After ten years on the front lines, Mr Kyle retired in 2009 in order to "save his marriage".

Trivia:
Mr Kyle still does not hold the record for most kills. That belongs to Simo Häyhä, a Finnish sniper, who reportedly killed 542 Russian troops during the Soviet invasion of Finland in the Second World War. See my related blog article: "Simo Häyhä- “White Death”- SNIPER with the most kills!"

Vatican Profits from Porn: Company 100% owned by the German Catholic Church!

In announcing his resignation, Pope Benedict XVI said: “In today’s world....in order to govern the ship of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.”

With the revelations and exposes coming out, one political columnist mentioned that it would seem like more than old age, the enormous burdens of our "new age" may really have caused the Pontiff to resign. His era was one of the most challenged with a series of sexual abuse scandals and financial embarrassments including expose of a 100% Vatican owned company that was producing porn. Read on below from from vaticancrimes.us. You be the judge....

One of Germany's largest publishing companies, Weltbild, has more than 2,500 erotic novels in its online catalogue - interestingly enough, it owned by no one other than the German Catholic Church. Yes, the Vatican owns 100% of Weltbild, which generates profits similar to Amazon.com

German newspaper Die Welt, has published that the Catholic Church for over 30 years. Some Catholics complained of this and the climax of this opposition resulted in 2008, when a 70-page report on the book sales was sent to the catholic bishops.
Die Welt reports that the situation came to light after a report this month mentioned the erotica distributed by Weltbild, which generates overf €1.7 billion ($2.4 billion) annually and has a 20 percent market share when it comes to selling books. That makes it the second largest online retailer of books behind Amazon.com.
But the Vatican's profits from pornography does not end there. The global corporation known as the "Catholic church" also owns a 50 percent stake in publishing company Droemer Knaur, which also produces pornographic books.

Russian "Meteor" 16 February 2013: Frequently Asked Questions- Answered!

Below are FAQs on the Russian "Meteor" that hit  about 930 miles east of Moscow in remote Chelyabinsk,16 February 2013- ANSWERED by Dr Stuart Clark in his Across the Universe blog. I took the liberty of editing the answers for brevity.

What hit Russia on Friday morning?
space rock weighing about 10 tons seen as a bright trail streaking through the sky as it burned when it entered the Earth's atmosphere with a speed of at least 54,000km/h (33,000mph). The sharp compression of the air created a shock wave heard as a sonic boom.

Was it one meteor or a shower?
It was a single object which shattered 18-32 miles (30-50km) above ground showing  a sudden brightening as the body fragmented during its passage through the atmosphere.

How rare is this sort of event?
Around 40,000 tons of space rocks fall to Earth every year mostly in the form of dust and relatively small meteorites. The last major one struck the Earth in 1908 when an asteroid about 50 meters exploded in the air above Tunguska of Siberia where it flattened forests over an area of hundreds of square miles
Trees knocked over by the Tunguska blast. Photograph from the
Soviet Academy of Science 1927 expedition led by Leonid Kulik

This happens every decade but usually takes place over unpopulated areas.

Has anyone ever been killed by a meteorite?
No one has been  recorded to have been killed by a meteorite falling from the sky. Most of the Earth's surface is uninhabited by humans, so meteorites usually fall over desolate areas or the oceans.

What's the difference between an asteroid, a meteor, a meteorite and a meteoroid?
from dendroica.tumblr.com/
A meteoroid is anything in orbit around the sun smaller than 10 meters. An asteroid is above 10 meters up to about 1,000 kilometers  A meteor is a speck of dust that burns up in the atmosphere creating a shooting star. A meteorite is a larger fragment, from pebble to boulder-sized, that survives to strike the surface of the Earth.
Is it connected with the asteroid space rock 2012 DA14 also on Friday night?
This could be the last close pass of Earth by asteroid 2012 DA14. Photograph: Nasa/JPL-Caltech/EPA
No. The approach of Friday morning's strike is unrelated to the approach of space rock 2012 DA14 according to the Royal Astronomical Society in London and the European Space Agency in Darmstadt, Germany

What do we do if we spot something big heading for Earth?
The United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (the space mission planning advisory group of scientists from NASA,  European Space Agency and the world's other space agencies) would be called into session to advise on the best strategy for dealing with the asteroid, on who would build the necessary spacecraft, the funding source and would pass the decision making to politicians.

Are any regions of Earth more at risk than others?
No. Incoming asteroids and meteoroids can come from any direction. Additionally, the Earth rotates once a day, presenting every hemisphere to the different directions of space.

Will the Russian "Meteor"  impact have any after-effect?
This impact was not enough to knock the Earth off its axis nor imperil telecommunications networks. The shock wave was NOT an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) similar to what is created by nuclear weapons and solar flares. There is no real risk of alien death viruses although there are theories that microbes could hitch rides on space rocks, there is no incontrovertible evidence that this is a widespread phenomenon.

POPE RESIGNATION Conspiracy Theories!

With Pope Benedict XVI's announced resignation still hot off the press, conspiracy theories have started creeping in! He announced  that he was stepping down from the papacy citing "advanced age" and "strength of mind and body" that had "deteriorated." Some have simply accepted that the pope’s health has markedly decreased pointing out less foreign travel and having limited his audiences as he is suffering from a joint degenerative joint disease. Some believe though that he is resigning to head off a scandal that is about to rock the Catholic Church. Below are the crazier and bigger ones so far— if we were to believe conspiracy  theorists:

His Nazi Past?

from helpfreetheearth.com
Pope Benedict has acknowledged the time in his German childhood when he was forced to join the Hitler Youth, calling it a "dark time" in his past. But less than two years after that admission, the non-believers are still raising eyebrows. The Nazi theory comes as Pope Pius XII, long believed to be a Nazi sympathizer, may be getting his own history rewritten.

Forced resignation due to increasing internal Church dissent with the faith’s strict dogma?

The internet is now awash with theories that he may have been forced by insiders to resign. The Pope has proved himself to be strongly against the ordination of women as priests, euthanasia, abortion and the use of artificial birth control. He has insisted on Catholic orthodoxy as a cerebral disciplinarian who was unafraid to crack down on liberals and dissidents within the church. One could possibly wonder if the Church has decided that it may be time to open the corridors to retain their following in the face of increasing dissent with some of the faith’s strict dogma.

A Sex Scandal Connection?

Archdiocese of Munich and Freising
Benedict's tenure as pope has been punctuated by ex-abuse scandals across the Church. He and his subordinates have been faced with repairing the Church's image- more so as there's even a personal connection that's been hanging over him in relation to this issue. In 2010, a German archdiocese had "said that a priest accused of molesting boys was given therapy in 1980 and later allowed to resume pastoral duties, before committing further abuses and being prosecuted. Pope Benedict, who at the time headed the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, approved the priest’s transfer for therapy reported" The New York Times's Nicholas Kulish and Rachel DonadioHBO's Mea Maxima Culpa, a documentary exploring the culpability of Pope Benedict and the Catholic Church in the brewing scandal.

The Prophecy?

"In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End."
The last time a pope quit was almost 600 years ago. Gregory XII "left the papacy in 1415 to end what was known as the Western Schism among several competitors for the papacy," report The New York Times's Elisabetta Povoledo and Alan Cowell. The theory here is that if Benedict is retiring now, then it must mean there's something as big as that dividing the Church right now.

The Church has been long divided over its next course — and the selection of the new pope may begin to chart that path. And, on a slightly more ridiculous course, there is a papal prophecy out there from St. Malachy, a monk born in 1094, that Pope Benedict's successor will be a guy dubbed "Peter the Roman" and Peter the Roman's pontificate will be so bad that he will destroy Rome (the Catholic Church).

POPE RESIGNATIONs in Roman Catholic Church history

Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Square, Rome, 2010
The Vatican announced Monday that Pope Benedict XVI is stepping down on Feb. 28. The sudden announcement caught Catholics around the world off guard- becoming the first pontiff to step down in nearly 600 years. While such papal resignations are extremely rare, there are precedents in the two millennia history of the Catholic Church.

Marcellinus (296 - 304) :

This early church pope abdicated or was deposed in 304 during the Diocletian persecutions of 303, after complying with the Roman emperor's order to hand over scriptures to Roman authorities and burn incense to the pagan gods. He didn't actually resign, but his actions probably caused him to cease being pope.  Such actions would have disqualified him from the priesthood and, therefore, the papacy. His name was kept off the official list of popes for a while, but today he is there and his papacy is marked as ending with his death.

Sold the papacy to his godfather Gregory VI (1045-1046) and resigned in 1045. Born in Rome as Theophylactus of Tusculum, he was Pope on three occasions between 1032 and 1048. One of the youngest popes, he was the only man to have been Pope on more than one occasion and the only man ever to have sold the papacy

Celestine V (1294) :

Overwhelmed by the demands of the office, this hermetic pontiff stepped down after five months as pope in 1294.  Pope Benedict XVI  prayed at his tomb in the central Italian city of L'Aquila in 2009.

Gregory XII (1326 - 1417)

Pope Gregory XII (1326 - 1417) was the last pope to resign before Pope Benedict XVI.
The last pope to resign, Gregory XII stepped down in 1415 to help end a church schism.

Chris Kyle- Deadliest Sniper in US history shot dead.

Chris Kyle who is claimed as the most lethal sniper in US history was shot dead on a Texas gun range February 2, 2013.

Witnesses said that he was with another man at Rough Creek Lodge's shooting range near Forth Worth, Texas, when a gunman opened fire on the men before fleeing in a pick-up truck belonging to one of the victims, according to a local newspaper. Both victims were fatally shot. The newspaper said a 25-year-old man was later taken into custody nearby and that charges were expected. The motive for the shooting is unclear.

He was so prolific as a sniper during his  four tours of Iraq that the former Navy SEAL, marksman and author had an $80,000 bounty put on his head by Iraqi insurgents in Ramadi, and branded him “Al-Shaitan Ramadi” - “The Devil of Ramadi.”. He received three Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars with Valor during his tour of duty.

Kyle, 38, is the author of the New York Times best-selling book, "American Sniper:The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History," about the 150-plus insurgents he killed between 1999 and 2009. He was also in the news recently as he was being sued for defamation by Jesse Ventura, former Governor of Minnesota, over the book's claim that Kyle punched Ventura in a 2006 bar fight over unpatriotic remarks. Ventura said the punch never happened. The suit was set to begin in August.

The married father of two, from Odessa, Texas, was president of Craft International, providing sniper and security training for the US military.
