A scene from the end-of-the-world movie "2012." |
21 December 2012 is an important date as many people believe it will herald the start of the Apocalypse. It marks the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar and the conclusion of the fourth and final b’ak’tun.
Some archaeologists and Maya experts say the prophecy predicts the return to Earth of a powerful God named Bolon Yokte and even perhaps the start of a new era, but not a global catastrophe.
Pick a day, any day and start counting. The long-count calendar is a linear system based upon tracking time through units of twenty. |
Some archaeologists and Maya experts say the prophecy predicts the return to Earth of a powerful God named Bolon Yokte and even perhaps the start of a new era, but not a global catastrophe.
The oldest surviving manuscript of the Popol Vuh dated to 1701 describes the Gods first creating three failed worlds, followed by a successful fourth world in which humanity was placed. The Maya Long Count’s “start date” was set at a point in the past (11 August 3114 BC in our Gregorian calendar) marking the end of the third world and the beginning of the current one. As a result the fourth world will have reached the end of its 13th b’ak’tun, Maya date 13.0.0.0.0, on December 21, 2012.
While some people believe Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive spiritual or physical transformation, others suggest that 21 December 2012 marks the beginning of the End. Some scenarios suggested for the Armageddon include Earth’s collision with a black hole, passing asteroid or a planet called “Nibiru” and even destruction from the forces of the galactic alignment or the next solar maximum which is to occur soon.
Whatever the case, watch the video for more Maya 2012 info as you have less than 24 hours left (as of this posting) until 21 December 2012 to make up your mind, or is there? Let's wait and see.....
